Dr Nikki Liew

Bachelor of Dental Science (Hons) 2007
Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Special Needs Dentistry) 2019

Background and Experience

Dr Nikki Liew is an AHPRA-registered specialist in Special Needs Dentistry (SND) with over 12 years of experience working in public and private dentistry in rural and metropolitan Victoria. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate training at the University of Melbourne. Nikki was inspired to undertake speciality training in SND after working with people with disabilities and complex medical conditions, who often faced immense challenges in accessing and receiving suitable oral health care.

Her clinical experience includes:

  • community-based dental care of patients with special health care needs in private practice and community dental clinics
  • hospital-based care of patients at the Monash Medical Centre, the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, Alfred Health, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Calvary Health Care Bethlehem
  • treatment of patients under general anaesthesia at Bellbird Private Hospital, St John of God Berwick Hospital, the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne and Warrnambool Base Hospital
  • teaching as a clinical demonstrator and lecturer in SND at the University of Melbourne.

Practice Philosophy

Nikki’s practice philosophy is grounded upon person-centred care. She believes that every person deserves good oral health and should be treated with dignity, compassion and respect.

In order to provide the best possible care for patients, Nikki ensures that time is taken to understand each patient’s individual needs, preferences, abilities and living circumstances, and to coordinate care with families, support workers, and medical and allied health teams.
